Watch out for these birds in your backyard:

Northern Flicker- Returning to the city.  Will eat lots of ants on the ground.  Also enjoys suet, Bark Butter and seed cylinders

Juncos- We have had a handful of junco sightings.  Soon they will be everywhere.  Make sure you have their favorite  food (white millet) scattered on the ground for them to eat.

Warblers- Many warblers are moving through the area.  Watch your native plants like sages, sunflowers, cosmos, and chamisas for warbler activity.  They will glean insects from these plants.  They will also visit birdbaths.

Green-tailed Towhee-  watch for this attractive towhee scooting on the ground scratching for insects and seeds.

Lark Sparrows- On the ground eating seed.  These sparrows have interesting facial markings and when in flight, their tails are etched with white.

Chipping Sparrows- ground feederss.  They are small sparrows that have a distinctive chip sound.

Lesser Goldfinches-  These cute yellow birds are late nesters.  They love nyjer seed, but in the fall will often be seen at native seed producing plants like cone-flowers, sunflowers, sages and cosmos.  Don't be discouraged if you notice less activity at your nyjer feeder-they will be back after they deplete their natural foods.

Scrub Jays- Love peanuts in the shell, seed cylinders, suet and Bark Butter.  In recent years our customers have not had much jay activity.  Based on recent sightings, it looks like they are making a comeback.
