Female Yellow-rumped Warbler

These 5-6 inch warblers are somewhat common in New Mexico. Flocks of hundreds can be seen during  their arrival in the fall, where they will spend the winter months among the resident population. In many areas, this is the only warbler to be seen in the winter months. A slate-gray bird ,with two white wing bars and yellow patches on the head, flank and rump are sometime's referred to as "Butter Butts". The Audubon's variety has a yellow chin while Myrtle's have a white chin. Their diet consists of berries, insects, and occasional visits to suet feeders. Our customers tell us that they see the Yellow-rumped Warblers eating our Bark Butter spreadable suet!
