New Mexico is a birding paradise offering diverse landscapes that attract a wide variety of bird species. From the Rio Grande Bosque to the dramatic cliffs of the Gila National Forest, bird watchers enjoy spotting everything from Sandhill Cranes and Western Tanagers to rare species like the Painted Redstart. Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge is a must-visit, especially during the winter migration season when thousands of geese and cranes take to the skies.

Rio Grande Nature Center

Rio Grande Nature Center State Park has a native plant garden, bird feeders, and a nature shop. A viewing platform is available at the northeast corner of the overflow parking lot. This platform looks out onto the City Open Space Candelaria Nature Preserve just northeast of the park, where the cranes and raptors love to spend their day. The Rio Grande Nature Center State Park (RGNCSP) is one of 35 parks in the New Mexico State Park system. Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge

Offers trails and a visitor center with a gift shop. Plenty of parking and a shuttle certain times of the year to access trails quicker. Dogs are welcome on the trails.
